Class 3
Welcome to Class 3!
In Class 3 you will find Mr Olver and our fantastic teaching assistant - Mrs Jones. We currently have 22 pupils from Year 3 and 4.
Mrs Middleton will be helping the children to develop their musical skills along with Mr Curtan from the Love Music Trust on a Thursday afternoon when they will be learning to play a brass instrument. Mrs Hague will be teaching RE, also on Thursday.
Throughout this term we will be learning about 'Archaeology' in Science where we will be exploring the human body, learning about teeth in animals, skeletons, the rock cycle and how fossils are formed.
In History, we will be learning about what life was like during The Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age. We will be finding out about the living conditions, the different jobs that families had to do, how they used the resources around them, how life changed for the better through the different periods and about the amazing discovery of Skara Brae.
Maths this term will include the topics of Place Value, Addition and Subtraction and Multiplication and Division.
In English, we are going to be reading 'The Iron Man' by Ted Hughes. We will use this text to write our own setting descriptions and stories about threats approaching us! After half term we will be reading 'Fox' by Margaret Wild and Ron Brooks. In this story we will learn about the sly old fox and how he tricked the poor injured magpie. From this tale we will write our own fable narratives and some persuasive text to change your mind about the sly fox. Our class story this term will be 'James and the Giant Peach' by Roald Dahl.
In Geography we will be learning about volcanos and how they are made. We will also find out about where in the world they are and about the different types.
In PE this term, we will be developing our skills in tennis, netball gymnastics and handball.
For our PHSE work this half term we will be looking at 'Families and Relationships'.
As part of our work on computing, we will be developing our skills in coding through Code Studio. Here we will explore and complete a range of different games and challenges where we will have to write our own codes and programmes. We will also develop our typing skills through the use of Dancemat Typing.
Maths homework will be sent home on a Wednesday and should be returned on a Friday. English homework will be set on a Friday and will be returned the following Tuesday. We also strongly encourage the children to regularly access Timestable Rockstars to help develop their understanding of their tables. Over the course of the year there will be 'Rock Battles' within our class and also against other classes in school.
A busy term awaits!
